Maggiori dettagli

da quello che ho capito le cose dovrebbero stare cosi'. Nasce come modello 1893 come ordi

Steyr 1898 model 1893 caliber is 6.5. One of 1800 made for Portuguese King Carlos the First with his crest and stamp and the Romanian crest and stamp. Has 17 inch barrel. In very good condition in about 95% condition. In 2009 these were appraised at $4000

The Romanian Model 1893 Carbine was a shortened version of the M1893 rifle (see FIR 8145) and was introduced in 1903 for use by cavalry and artillerymen. It was a bolt action weapon employing the Mannlicher magazine system, wherein 5-round clips of cartridges were loaded into a fixed magazine. When all 5 had been discharged, the clip dropped out of the bottom of the magazine. The Romanian rifles were chambered for a 6.5mm cartridge.

1227mm [48.3"] overall, 4.06kg [8.8 lbs], 725mm [28.5"] barrel, 4-groove rifling, RH, concentric

These Mannlicher type weapons were designed using lessons learned from the Gew.88 rifles. They had straight grip stocks and two barrel bands. Receiver tops were marked Md.1893 beneath the Romanian crown. Stocks were marked with the full crest of Romania

A carbine version (Carabine Md.1893) of the rifle was introduced for cavalry and artillery unit use. Overall length was shortened to 978mm, barrel length was 450mm, and the weight was reduced to 3.29kg.

The manufacturing of carbines started in 1894. While all guns were marked as "Steyr", various parts were made by "Budapest" and marked with an "R".

One of the neatest finds over the past week was this Roumanian-type Steyr M1893 carbine made for Portugal, where it is known as the Model 1896. A total of 8,000 were made according to my Steyr Catalog (circa 1896/7). This one is serial number 715.

1st in 1896 for 4000 carbines for cavalry and a 2nd in 1898 for 4500 for artillery. There seem to be minor diferences that I ignore...
